The recent approval of esketamine by Infarmed for the treatment of Treatment-Resistant Depression marks an important step in meeting the needs of thousands of people in Portugal. This breakthrough offers a new therapeutic alternative for those who have tried multiple conventional antidepressants without success.

This innovative treatment is now available at The Clinic of Change, as part of a rigorous protocol supervised by specialized health professionals.

What is Esketamine?

Esketamine is a fast-acting medication indicated for adults diagnosed with resistant depression - that is, patients who have not achieved significant clinical improvement after at least two adequate antidepressant treatments.

This intranasal drug is effective in rapidly reducing symptoms such as deep sadness, anxiety, loss of interest, extreme tiredness, changes in sleep and appetite, and even suicidal ideation. Its rapid action - between 1 and 4 weeks - can be a relevant option in emergency situations.

How does treatment work at The Clinic of Change?

At our clinic, esketamine is administered exclusively under medical prescription and strict clinical supervision. Treatment takes place in a safe and controlled environment, with close monitoring by experienced mental health professionals.

It is administered via a nasal device in scheduled sessions. The frequency and dosage are adjusted individually, taking into account the clinical history and needs of each patient.

When is Esketamine indicated?
Esketamine can be recommended in the following cases:

  • Diagnosis of treatment-resistant depression
  • Urgent clinical situations with severe depressive episodes
  • Presence of suicidal ideation, where a rapid response is required

Before starting treatment, each case is assessed by the medical team at The Clinic of Change, ensuring that esketamine is a clinically appropriate and safe option for the patient.

Specialized support

At The Clinic of Change, each patient is accompanied throughout the process. Our mission is to guarantee not only safety, but also the effectiveness and humanization of treatment, while respecting the needs and vulnerabilities of each person.
