Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy guarantees lasting effects in the treatment of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress up to three and six months after treatment: results of a retrospective efficacy study.

Importance: Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is an emerging treatment option for treatment-resistant disorders, but its long-term effectiveness is still being investigated.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Ketamine [or ketamine] Assisted Psychotherapy 1, 3 and 6 months after treatment for anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress.

Conclusions and relevance: Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy produces a sustained reduction in symptoms of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress well beyond the period of the dosing and integration sessions. The effects last up to five months after the last session. It is possible that some attrition effects limit the validity of the results. Given the growing mental health crisis and the need for effective therapeutic models, especially for complex psychiatric problems, these results confirm that Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a viable alternative.
