US clinic offers ketamine therapy to treat alcoholism. UK biotech Awakn licenses 'party drug' to addiction clinics

A US clinic in New York has started offering Ketamine along with psychotherapy to people with alcoholism, at a time when the fast-growing psychedelics industry is moving into addiction treatment.
New York-based Nushama said it would administer Ketamine, a hallucinogenic drug approved by regulators half a century ago as a surgical anesthetic, to its first patients this week. The wellness clinic specializes in using psychedelic therapies to treat depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses.
The clinic licensed the combination therapy to treat alcohol use disorder to Awakn Life Sciences, a British biotechnology company that is developing psychedelic treatments for addictions such as gambling, compulsive sexual behavior and binge eating.
