Following a first edition that addressed the topics of treatment-resistant depression and alcohol dependence—and how psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has achieved positive results in treating these conditions—Change Talks, a free webinar series from The Clinic of Change that offers a human, accessible, and responsible conversation about mental health, returns on March 24.

Old and New Addictions: What Are They?
Thus, with a new panel of speakers—comprising three mental health experts—the Q&A session will take place once again, focusing on the theme“From Gambling to Alcohol Dependence: Old and New Addictions.” Drawing on the experience of three members of the clinical team at The Clinic of Change, the 60-minute session will discuss the relevance of psychotherapy—in the case of alcohol, assisted by ketamine, an innovative treatment—in addressing these two problems, which are so deeply rooted in our society.
For example, drawing on success stories from The Clinic of Change, experts will discuss the effectiveness of treatment programs, how psychedelic substances affect the human brain, and the tools provided by psychotherapy—all of which have enabled dozens of patients to lead fulfilling lives and regain hope for the future.

Contributing to the discussion will be Dr. Guilherme Bastos Martins, a psychiatrist, and Dr. Magda Carvalho, a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, both of whom specialize in addictive behaviors. Rounding out the panel is Dr. Miguel Esteves Carneiro, also a psychiatrist, who specializes in pathological gambling, among other areas.
Alcohol addiction and how does it manifest itself in everyday life?
In fact, alcohol consumption is deeply ingrained in society, which often makes it difficult to recognize when there is a problem. During the webinar, the panel of clinicians will discuss how to:
- How alcohol dependence manifests itself in everyday life;
- What are the first warning signs?
- The profile of patients seeking help;
- The effectiveness of ketamine-assisted therapy in cases of alcoholism;
- What therapeutic tools help build.
Gaming: an addiction that starts out as entertainment
As for the topic that will be covered in the second part of the webinar—pathological gambling—we’re talking about an addiction that may start as entertainment but, for some people, can turn into a behavior that’s hard to control. As such, when that happens, the consequences can profoundly affect one’s personal, family, and financial life. In Change Talks, we’ll discuss:
- What is pathological gambling and how does it develop;
- What are the main warning signs and risky behaviors;
- How addiction can develop over time;
- When and why to seek specialized support;
- What recovery pathways are available, and what impact might they have on the lives of individuals and their families?
Finally, in the last part of this completely free online session, the panel of clinicians will be available to answer questions from the audience and clarify concepts related to these conditions and their respective treatments. Join us and ask all the questions you’ve always wanted to ask about psychedelic-assisted therapy and psychotherapy.
