Alexandre Almeida: "The (long) road to my recovery."
Alexandre had already tried everything, from hospitalization to hypnosis, to try to free himself from what had driven him to rock bottom: "the disease of alcoholism". About to lose what he loves most, his family, it was his wife who found what he considers his "salvation": the KARE Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy program at The Clinic of Change. "Today I'm free of alcohol, I've recovered my family, my sanity, my joie de vivre. And how good it is to live."

I leave my testimony in the hope that it may be useful to those who are suffering and going through the same pain I did.
It would even be selfish of me to talk only about my suffering, because those around me were suffering as much or more than I was.
The disease of alcoholism (chronic addiction) was very deep-rooted in me, and I went through all kinds of treatment, but without success. I was first followed in hospital, where at one point I was told: "I don't know what to do for you any more." It was a shock, but it was the harsh reality. I had reached "rock bottom".
This damned disease of alcoholism wouldn't give me a break
Later, my wife, already desperate, found a clinic where I was hospitalized for twenty months and two days. Yes, that's right, twenty months and two days. When I got out, after fifteen days I relapsed. It sounds insane, but it's a reality. This damned disease was relentless and I was on the verge of giving up.
Later, again in desperation, my wife found a non-hospitalized clinic where the treatment consisted of HBM psychotherapy, basically a treatment based on hypnosis. It solved my anxiety problem, but the main problem remained (much to my dismay).
I was on the verge of losing my family, my children no longer spoke to me, my wife was sick with despair because she no longer knew what to do and she was on the verge of ending the relationship, which would certainly have been the end of me. But today I see how lucky I am to have the wife (and family) that I have.
With this drug and the support of a psychotherapist, I was finally able to get to the root of my problems
In a last-ditch effort (and last chance), my wife came to find my salvation, The Clinic of Change. I confess that I went without hope, which is natural after so many treatments, so many clinics and so many failed results.
At first, I went for a diagnostic consultation to find out if I was eligible for this treatment. Thank God (because I believe) I was accepted. I started treatment almost immediately with a psychotherapist to whom I am eternally grateful.
The treatment consisted of psychotherapy with the administration of the drug ketamine [or ketamine]. But that wasn't the most important thing (although it was very important). With this drug and the accompaniment of the psychotherapist, I was finally allowed to get to the root of my problems, understanding why I was suffering so much and why I was resorting to alcohol. If I had things weighing me down in the past, I couldn't imagine how much.
Today, the traumas of the past haven't disappeared, but they've been resolved, "sorted out" and no longer cause me any suffering. Today, and only today, I'm free of alcohol, I've recovered my family, my sanity, my joiede vivre. And how good it is to live.
[The Clinic of Change would like to thank Alexandre for his courage in sharing his story and for his generosity in helping others to seek help].
