When we have evidence and interventions that are being discussed outside the structures that allow us to ensure that interventions are safe, effective, that people do what is right for them at each moment, we have to bring the discussion back to a discussion that has the right stakeholders, that has the right actors.
These stakeholders are the people who produce the science, the people who produce the evidence of application, and it is in this area that the discussion must take place so that it is not a discussion of excitement, not a discussion of unbridled enthusiasm, but a discussion with its feet firmly on the ground, looking at the quality evidence and thinking about it with moderation and thoughtfulness.
Conclusions of the conference on Psychotherapy with Psychedelics
The centerpiece of the conference was Prof. David Nutt, a man with decades of experience in psychopharmacology, and the takeaway is that there is clearly robust evidence regarding this new pharmacological field, which is drugs that act on glutamate, rather than serotonin, which are the more conventional anti-depressants.
With the demonstration, it was very clear from Prof. David Nutt's presentation the solid evidence that exists for a molecule that is esketamine, the also quite extensive evidence that exists in relation to ketamine and, finally, the promising evidence, but still very initial, in relation to a specific model of application of ketamine, which is ketamine with psychotherapy.
